This post about the best botox in Nashville is in collaboration with ElaMar. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A few weeks ago I headed down the road to the new Sylvan Supply area off of Charlotte. In the front, is a new medical aesthetics and skincare boutique called ElaMar. The staff there was kind enough to give me a tour of their gorgeous pink space, have a consultation, and get some preventative botox.
Typically I get botox in my forehead and between my eyes. This time I also got some botox in my crow’s feet area. I’ve gotten filler in my under eyes and was interested in also getting filler in my lip. However, after talking with ElaMar’s head nurse, Katie, she thought I’d be way happier with a lip flip. I’m breaking down what a lip flip is and some questions y’all had below!

The Best Botox in Nashville: Lip Flip Q&A
How much does a lip flip cost?
A lip flip at ElaMar is $125.
How often do you need to have it done?
Most clients that get a lip flip get the treatment with their routine Botox treatment, every 3 months.
What’s the recovery time with a lip flip?
Zero “downtime.” Clients often leave their appointment and return to work. Botox takes approximately 2 weeks to fully activate, but many clients see and feel the lip flip kicking in around 3-5 days after injections.

Why is a lip flip better than lip filler?
I would say they are both special in their own way, as they are both used for different reasons and desired client outcomes. Lip or dermal filler consists of hyaluronic acid which has a thick gel-like consistency. A dermal filler may be utilized to even out lip shape, restore or add volume, increase lip hydration, and enhance lip shape.
What even is a lip flip?
A lip flip is a treatment that utilizes a neuromodulator such as Botox or Dysport. The neuromodulator is injected into the area just above the upper lip (orbicularis oris). The lip flip is often utilized to create a “flip up” effect of the upper lip, reduce a gummy smile, and add a small plump or pout look to the upper lip.

How long does it last?
Lip flips typically last around 8 weeks. Approximately 4 weeks less than Botox in other areas of the face, this is because the orbicularis oris (upper lip) is a very active muscle e.g. think talking, chewing, singing, etc… To continue talking, chewing, and singing clearly with a lip flip, it’s important to have an effective dose for the lip flip but not too much that may cause difficulty speaking and eating.
What are the side effects of botox and a lip flip?
Positive: decreased gummy smile, more upper lip fullness, lip flipped up. Negative: while a lip flip is starting to activate in clients, the patient may experience difficulty pronouncing P’s and B’s. Patients also may have difficulty sipping out of a straw or whistling.
Does the lip flip hurt?
Most lip flips require 4 points of injection. This typically feels like a quick sting or small rubber band snap.

Is it painful?
Just a few pinches, think of it like a small rubber band snapping at the injection points. There are typically four injection points.
Why do you recommend a lip flip? Is it preventative?
A lip flip is recommended for clients that would like a slightly fuller upper lip. A “flip” effect to their upper lip, to reduce a gummy smile, and to prevent or soften vertical wrinkles above the upper lip also known as smoker lines.
Anything you should prepare for before you get Botox?
Arrive at your appointment well-rested and hydrated. Be sure to have a small meal within a couple of hours before your appointment. This will help to decrease the risk of feeling faint after Botox injections. Prepare to not work out or drink alcohol for the remainder of the day.
What if you don’t like it? Can it be dissolved?
Botox cannot be dissolved. Luckily for the rare few that do not like Botox, facial Botox will wear off within about 3 months, and a lip flip will wear off within about 8 weeks.
