Nashville has 12 seasons…
Winter, Fool’s Spring, Second Winter, Spring of Deception, Third Winter, The Pollening, Actual Spring, Summer, Hell’s Front Porch, False Fall, Second Summer, and Actual Fall. Nashville right now it’s somewhere between the pollening and actual spring. You experience all four seasons in a day! It’s cold when you wake up, warm mid-morning, hot in the afternoon, and then it gets cooler and cooler. I have a few tips on how to dress like a Nashville local, but today am sharing what to wear in Nashville in the spring.
Style Guide: What to Wear in Nashville in the Spring
Layer, Layer, Layer
As I said, in a typical spring, Nashville experiences all four seasons in a day. It’s cold when you wake up and go to sleep, but in between, it can get warm. My solution? Layers! I layer a denim jacket over a light sweater or tee and that way I’m ready for whatever Mother Nature throws at me that day. Oh also, it’s known to rain quite a bit, April showers and all. Make sure you bring a raincoat, umbrella, and shoes that aren’t suede!

Wear Colorful Maxi Dresses With Sleeves
There’s nothing more spring than a maxi/midi dress in a fun floral print. Made it perfect for Nashville temps by getting one with some sleeves! You’ll still look fresh but be warm with some coverage. If I could describe the way we dress in Nashville, it would be that we dress up. We like to look our best in our own unique style that’s a little boho, a little rocker chic and usually involves a hat of some kind. Long sleeve printed dresses with boots and a hat are the perfect look for a Nashville spring.

Wear Warmer Pieces in Lighter Colors
You can trick spring by wearing warmer pieces in lighter colors. Pull out your bright sweaters and knits and throw them on over a tank or tee! I love Free People knits because they’re so chunky and breathable that you could wear them most of the day and be comfortable! Also, wear lighter-wash denim. That can make any outfit look more in-season.

Switch Out Your Accessories
If you want to truly dress for a Nashville spring, switch out your accessories. I’ll pull out a white fedora or a straw boater hat, a brighter color handbag in green or yellow, and wear sneakers in a brighter color. Don’t wear your typical black and navy accessories. It’s time to pull out whites and rich browns! But you know me, I’ll always pick a brighter color over a boring black.

Great tips! We have similar weather (very unpredictable and lots of rain) in Vancouver in the spring so I am all about layering as well. Also love longsleeve dresses!

Great tips! Virginia definitely experiences a lot of the same seasonal challenges, so layering is my go-to as well!
