Mother Nature has thrown me for a loop! After last week’s snow and ice storm, we’ve been blessed with a weekend of beautiful weather. The high was in the sixties today! I was able to drive around with my windows down and walked around with my jacket off most of the day. I love warm weather and thrive when it’s nice outside. I tend to get a little grouchy when it’s cold!
This has been one of my favorite looks lately. These gold sequin Kate Spade Keds were a birthday gift from my husband and I’m in love with them! They instantly dress up any outfit and are a fun, playful final touch. Plus they look great with this windowpane shift dress!
I’ve been trying to have fun with fashion and enjoyed mixing up these patterns and prints. Mixing and matching patterns and prints can be tricky. Too much can make you look like you’re a colorblind clown!
When I mix and match I try to do a couple of different things. One thing is staying in two to three colors. My colors here are black, white and gold/brown. The stripes in my shoes go with the windowpane, the gold in the shoes goes with the hardware in the jacket and the purse, and the jacket is also a grayish/brown color, which is close to my colors.
If you’re unsure of a combo idea, look on Pinterest. If you’ve thought of it someone else probably has too. You can get an idea of what it looks like on Pinterest and think of anything you like or would do differently. My favorite combo lately is a striped top, plaid scarf and leopard shoes, bag, or belt. Especially a black and white top with a multi colored scarf! I’ve seen so many bloggers do this combo and it always looks so fresh and effortless.
Another thing is doing pops of different colors with a neutral. I have a fun look coming later this week where I have a neutral navy patterned dress, but I did pops of color in the shoes, bag, lip and belt. I also mixed a gingham dress with polka dot pumps! The important thing is to have fun and not be afraid of taking some risks.
If you’re still hesitant to mix and match patterns, then start out with accessories. A leopard shoe, a printed purse, a polka dot scarf. If you do well with that then it can lead to outfit pattern mixing!
What is your favorite mixing and matching color/print combo? Do you have any rules that you follow when it comes to prints and patterns?
