This post is written in collaboration with Modern Trousseau Nashville. Thanks for supporting fun brands that I collaborate with!
For the COVID-19 brides, I’m feeling for you in a big way. Weddings have been canceled, postponed, or altered in a big way and the uncertainty in these times can ruin the wedding experience for a bride-to-be. Who would have thought when planning your big day a year ago, your ceremony would be attended by less than 50 people who are wearing masks with the promise of a “big party” when this is over.
I encourage all you brides to try to have fun in this process. Most of us only get married once and it’s truly a magical time. One of my favorite parts of the wedding process was dress shopping and finding the perfect wedding gown for your big day. I’ve partnered with a local bridal boutique, Modern Trousseau Nashville to share a few tips for getting your wedding gown. Modern Trousseau is an American-made bridal couture house that designs classic and timeless wedding gowns and they also have a great sample sale! Read more below.
Nashville Bride Guide: 5 Tips to Get your Wedding Gown at Modern Trousseau Nashville Sample Sale
Don’t Bring A Lot of People
If you watch Say Yes to the Dress or other bridal shows, the bride has her entire bridal party and friends come and help pick out her dress. You can also see this is when a lot of drama comes up between conflicting opinions. Sometimes with everyone’s opinions, you can get frustrated or pick a dress you don’t love because your family or friends like it.
When I got married, I just had my mom with me and luckily she and I both loved the same dress! With COVID guidelines you can’t have a bunch of people with you anyway at Modern Trousseau but just keep it small! (And P.S. make sure everyone wears a mask!)

Make an Appointment
Even in the Corona age when a lot of people aren’t out, it’s still good to make appointments. This way the sales associates and staff can make sure the showroom is clean and ready for you to try on dresses and have an enjoyable experience.

Keep An Open Mind
You can go into an appointment and be set on a mermaid-style gown but be disappointed when it doesn’t look the way you want it to. I recommend trying on all the different styles of dresses! Then see which one works best with your shape, skin tone, and style of wedding! I had my heart set on an ivory keyhole gown when I got married but ended up getting a tea-length, champagne-colored gown because ivory and white weren’t great colors for my skin tone. You might as well try on a bunch of different styles while you’re there and in the mindset!
Realize it’s Okay to Walk Away
Unless you’re on a tight timetable. It’s okay to walk away and sleep on a dress. You want to be 100% sure your dress is the one. You can always come back to finalize details and get measured. I do think it’s good to go back to the same place and the same sales associate who helped you. This person works hard to find you the right dress and provides you with an amazing experience. It’s only fair they get the sale for your dress.
Bring Already Decided Accessories With You
Say you want to wear your grandmother’s veil, a snazzy pair of shoes, or your mom’s earrings. Bring those items with you so the dress you choose compliments it!

These photos made me so happy! I love seeing past brides getting to play dress-up in gowns again. It’s just so much fun. You’re making me want to get my own dress out to try again 🙂 I definitely agree that the smaller the group the better when it comes to shopping. I only had my mom and sister and it was so special!
These photos are just gorrrrrgeous! You look beautiful. These are great tips! My one friend lives in Philly we were able to get her dress weeks before the pandemic shut everything down! We got lucky, my other friend didn’t. Her wedding is pushed back to maybe 2022. 🙁
Such good advice! I think keeping the group small is very key since otherwise you’re going to end up with a lot of opinions that you may not necessarily want!
This is so beautiful. I bet brides to be will be happy to find your tips for finding a great gown.
