One fabric I love to wear in the winter is sequins. It’s not practical or warm but it helps get me through the dreary winter months. Think about it, you’re wearing a coat or baggy sweater and want some pizzaz and sass. Well, just add sequins!
During fashion week, sequins were one of my staples. I had a rose gold sequin skirt and paired it with embossed croc booties, an oversized sweater, and a jacket. Then I had some sequin pants and did a “blue look” with a blue sweater, hat, and coat. As you can see sequins brightened up an outfit that would have been a little drab without it. Below are a few tips to help you style sequin in the winter months.
How to Wear Sequins in the Winter
Keep It In One Color Scheme -In the photo above, I kept my look to one color, blue. The sequins didn’t pop entirely in this all-blue outfit, but added some fun depth and shimmer!
Wear It In Accessories – Sequins can be great in accessories like a headband, beret, cape, handbag, shoes or scarf. It gives a winter outfit a glam vibe without going overboard.
Find Pieces That Look Well Layered – I wore these pants to September Fashion Week with a button-down shirt knotted. I could also wear it with tees and bodysuits. But the test of a truly versatile piece is in sweaters.
Keep It to Just One Main Piece – Don’t go overboard, just have a top and jeans, skirt and bodysuit or pants and sweater.
Dress It Down with Denim – If you’re worried about sequins being too dressy, you can dress it down with denim. Pair a denim jacket with a skirt or dress, a chambray shirt with pants, and denim with a sequin top or jacket.
