How to Do NYFW With Your Husband

February 19, 2018

A few weeks ago, I went to New York Fashion Week for the second time. My first time was last September and I had no idea what to expect. I learned a lot and felt ready to conquer NYFW in February. A lot of my blogger friends weren’t coming this time (see you in September!), so it looked like I was going to the room alone.

After thinking about it one night, I asked my husband if he wanted to come to NYFW too. I was only going for the weekend so he didn’t have to worry about missing school. We also had the extra airline points. If I’m staying by myself in a room he should come!

We had such a great time doing fashion week together. He got to see a little bit more of what I do and take in the sights with me. And he also got some to go do things he wanted. It worked out perfectly! Today I’m sharing a few tips if you decide to bring your significant other with you to NYFW.

HOW TO DO NYFW WITH YOUR HUSBAND

Have Him take Your Photos

It was nice not having to hire a photographer and having to be somewhere at a certain time. While walking, if we saw a cool street or empty sidewalk we’d snap some shots, no pressure.

If He Wants to Go to Shows With You, Dress Him in Black and Put a Camera Around His Neck

Tim got into a few shows with me no questions. If someone did ask I just said he was my photographer (which he technically is). Then he’d either stand in the media pit or slide into an empty seat once the show started.

It’s Nice Having a Travel Buddy

I’m so directionally challenged. In September I would go the wrong way on the subway or end up in the wrong place completely. Tim is great with directions and very organized when we travel. He got me where I needed on time and I didn’t panic if I was alone at night.

Carve Out Some Non-Fashion Time

Tim can’t live and breathe fashion like me. So we did some non-fashion things. Let your husband pick two to three things he wants to do and have fun! We went to the MET and a NY Islanders hockey game. We also ate a ton of good food (mostly bagels and pizza).

Find Another Fashion Husband and They Can Bond

My friend Rachel and her husband Long went to NYFW together. Tim and Long know each other from other Nashville blogging events so they were able to hang out at an event we were at. They even shared snacks!

Bring Snacks

Tim has a tendency to get hangry if he doesn’t eat. Depending on your schedule, there isn’t time to eat when you’re shuffling in between showrooms, shows, and events. I packed his favorite pop tarts and power bars and had them in my purse for when he got hungry.

Don’t Make Him Go to Shows if He Doesn’t Want To

Tim looked at my schedule one day and saw six shows. It wasn’t for him, so he went and explored the city and did his own thing while I went to shows. We met up when I was done!

Bring a Convertible Phone Charger

You know guys when they’re not in their element, they’re on their phones a lot. Especially if I was talking to people in showrooms or in a brand meeting. Tim could whip out the charger and stay entertained!

It was really nice having someone with me at fashion week. I didn’t take myself so seriously, rolled with the punches and he reminded me to eat and have fun. Overall I would say bringing a husband to February fashion week was successful. I’m not sure if he would enjoy September since it’s 10x busier, but if you have the chance definitely bring your significant other with you.

I traveled with a blogger friend this season but would totally make my bf come with me one year! Hilarious but true what you said about dressing him in black and putting a camera around his neck to get him in shows!
