This front porch makeover ideas post is written in collaboration with Sherwin Williams. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I don’t know about you but I live on my front porch. This time of year, when the temps drop some, you can find me on the porch under my string lights with a glass of wine, my pups, and a blanket.
We’ve lived in our house for almost nine years and after a while, you start noticing things that need to be updated. Our siding needs to be replaced, we need a new front door, new patio furniture, the list goes on and on. Right now, my husband is finishing up grad school and our budget is extremely limited.
I’ve been wanting to update our porch for a while but haven’t had much time, energy, or resources. So when Sherwin Williams reached out and offered some paint for a home project, I jumped at the chance! And since this past weekend, Labor Day was a long weekend, I grabbed my masking tape, paintbrush, and iPod and got to work!
Front Porch Makeover Ideas
BEFORE

You can add a roof, bring in new furniture and accessories or paint the space.
Use a darker hue for the paint or stain and add accessories with contrasting colors for an expensive, modern look.
You have more color options with paint and paint typically lasts up to 10 years. With stain, you’re limited on color and is mostly shades of brown. Paint can also fill in cracks and makes a space look new.
AFTER
We kept the same color palette. Black shutters and door, black floor, and white railing. One thing we did change but make the top of the railing black. The white tops get dirty so easily so I’m hoping the black looks cleaner.

I’m so happy with the overall look. Yeah, it looks similar but it looks so much cleaner and more up-to-date. Sherwin Williams has such a wide variety of exterior paint. Below are the colors I used on the porch.
- Multi-Purpose Latex Primer in White
- Emerald Exterior Acrylic Latex in 7005 Pure White
- Black of Night 6993

Of course, if you don’t have the time and energy to paint you can also update a space by getting new throw pillows for chairs and porch swings. You can also get some new little decorations and string lights. We’re heading into fall, so outdoor items will be on sale! Stock up if you find a good deal!

Love the swing. I think it’s such a nice detail. And an item that would be useful.

Nice refresh! I don’t have a front porch being a NYC resident BUT I am seriously hoping for outdoor space with the apartment we buy in the future, so that I can do lots of outdoor decorating! The paint colors you kept are so crisp and a new coat of paint made such a difference here.
Looks beautiful babe!! Such a great way to update the porch! Love that it was a small change that made a big difference!
