For this year’s Nordstrom Anniversary sale, I only bought two items; some UGG house slippers and this Free People teddy coat. I rented this jacket in white and wore it to NYFW in February and loved the casual, laid-back vibe. I kept it a few weeks and wore it all around town! Teddy coats can be a hard item to style. It’s not necessarily the most versatile piece in your closet, it’s perfect if you have a casual style. I’m sharing my tips on how to style a teddy coat below!
Fall Fashion: How to Style your Free People Teddy Coat in the Fall
Don’t Wear with Dresses and Skirts – Personally, I don’t like how skirts and dresses look with these coats. The jacket is loose-fitting and just doesn’t look right with exposed legs.
Wear with Jeans and Leggings – I’ve worn this coat with skinny jeans and Spanx leggings. I’ve also thrown this coat over workout leggings and a sports bra when I’m on my way to a workout.
This Isn’t a Formal Coat – If you dress up a lot for work or special events, this isn’t the coat to wear. The casual silhouette and fabric will look off with a dressed-up outfit.
The Casual the Better – Pair with beanies, baseball caps, sneakers, booties, hockey jerseys, graphic tees, white tees, jeans, you name it. It really is the perfect coat for throwing on over jeans and a tee to run errands in the fall and winter!
If You Dress it Up, Keep it Simple – As you can see below, I paired my jacket with white wedges and white crop top, and some paper bag jeans. Nothing too crazy! Keep your colors and patterns neutral.

This really is the best coat and I’m so glad I got it. When I was renting the white one, it was my go-to to throw on for errands and it was so cozy and effortless. The big pockets in the front are the perfect size for your phone and keys and you’ll just want to wear it all the time to be cozy!

Such a fun coat and I love the pop of color….stands out from the usual fall hues! xoxo, Sarah
This coat looks like it would be as snuggly as a throw blanket. I don’t think I’ve ever owned a long teddy coat. In fact, I really only picked up my first teddy coat ever in the last year. I’ll have to expand my collection at some point!
That coat looks so cozy. I love the color too!
