I’m going to be a girl and say the thing we all say. I HATE wearing a swimsuit. I’m not comfortable with my body the way it is and a swimsuit seems to amplify all those insecurities.
When I started blogging I vowed never to do swimsuit posts and have avoided them until now. But when ILY MIX reached out about collaborating I decided to get a swimsuit for my upcoming trip to Greece and photograph it then. Well, maybe. With a coverup. Underneath a dress. Well I got it regardless if I would end up wearing it or not.
Well it sat on my dresser for about two months and I felt like it was taunting me every day, telling me I would never have the body to pull it off. I eat fairly healthy, I exercise but I’m still insecure with myself. Why is that? Why is it the second the word swimsuit is mentioned I want to diet and exercise to ensure I’ll look amazing. I started thinking about the perfect bikini body and realized I would probably never have it. I love bread, milkshakes and pizza. I have cellulite and stretch marks and I’m not a size 0.
One day I tried the swimsuit on for the tenth time and looked at myself in the mirror. I didn’t look awful but was aware of a muffin top and a tummy pooch but who doesn’t really? I don’t want to live life waiting for the perfect time to wear a swimsuit, because it’s not going to come. So I shot this suit. I was self-conscious the entire time and spent a lot of time covering my tummy and thighs, I sucked in my stomach and made my husband drive to a state park off a hiking trail to shoot and ensure that no one would see me but I’m glad I did it. I took a baby step in the right direction. I want girls everywhere to know their bodies are beautiful and that they should be able to wear a swimsuit.
So don’t leave me out here alone and make sure you rock your swimsuits all summer long. Love your bodies! If I can do it you can too!
