A few years ago I went super platinum blonde really fast. I loved it. Blonde Greta was a whole mood and made me feel so sassy and confident! It lasted about six months when my hair got so damaged it didn’t even feel like hair anymore. My hair was so brittle and fried, I was losing a ton of length and my hair didn’t look healthy anymore. So my hair got dyed back to my natural brown and I met Angela at Copper & June Parlour in Brentwood.
Angela is an NBR Extension master and we decided to do extensions in my hair so my real hair would have time to heal and be heat-free while I curled and straightened the extensions. Well fast forward two years and my hair is in a much better place. It’s actually grown and looks pretty healthy! However, I’m still using the NBR Extensions. I’m hooked! I love the extra volume and length and my hair has never looked better.
I have a full post here on everything you need to know about NBR Extensions but today I thought I’d share with you a few tips to care for your NBR Extensions in the summer. Check out my 5 major things below!
5 Tips to Care for your NBR Extensions in the Summer
Be Careful With the Sunscreen
Sometimes we get a little crazy with the spray sunscreen and it gets everywhere. But if your hair is down it’s awful for your extensions! The chemicals in sunscreen can drastically alter the color of extensions, especially if you’re blonde.
Put Your Hair in a Braid in Water
If you’re going to be in the water, braid your hair or put it in a bun. This way your extensions won’t get tangled and hard to brush after a day in the water.
Wet Your Hair Before the Pool or Ocean
This may sound a little crazy but hear me out. If you’re going to get into a swimming pool or the ocean, have a spray bottle with “healthy” water in your bag. Spray your hair down until it’s coated, brush it through and then get in the water. This way your extensions would absorb and hold salt water or chlorine.
Wash ASAP
If you do get in the water or get sunscreen on your hair, try to wash your extensions as soon as possible. Don’t leave chemicals sitting for a long period of time! Also since it’s so hot and we’re outside more in the summer, washing and conditioning your hair will have it looking less dry and fried.
Embrace the Accessories
Wear all the head scarves and hats you want this summer! Not only are they cute but they keep your extensions safe from the sun.
One of the big things is limiting how often you wash your hair. Currently, I wash my hair once a week or every 10 days. I extend my using dry shampoo or just wash my bangs.
The best thing to do is leave it in a braid while you sleep.
NBR is one of the least damaging forms of hair extensions.
