When the summer days get longer, the hemlines get shorter! I love a good mini skirt or dress but with these long legs, I have to worry about having a Marilyn moment or wardrobe malfunction. Due to this, I have a few things I always have on hand to wear under my dresses and skirts. I thought I’d share with you in today’s post 5 things to wear under a short dress or skirt to keep you covered but keep the integrity of the sassy outfit together.

What to Wear Under a Short Dress

Bike Shorts

Bike shorts are the thing I wear most often under shorter dresses. I actually love wearing bike shorts with sneakers under oversized t-shirts and sweatshirts for a more casual look. In the summer though, they’re great under dresses and skirts that are flowy and have some movement. I have a black pair and a nude pair that I wear depending on the color of this dress.

Leggings

When it’s on the chillier side, leggings are always great to have on! I have some thinner pairs for summer and fleece-lined ones for winter. I don’t wear any color but black but navy or brown are great options if they work better with your outfit!

Stockings

In the winter, I definitely recommend stockings or tights under shorter dresses to keep you warm. Last winter, I was all about the Gucci tights, they’re a great investment and I wore them with everything. But I also love basic sheer black tights to wear under shorter dresses and skirts. They’re better for dressier more upscale events while leggings are more for casual, everyday wear.

Shapewear

If your dress or skirt is tighter, shapewear is where it’s at. I love the high-waisted shapewear with the shorts. They keep everything sucked in and the booty covered. The only downfall is it’s harder to go to the bathroom but at least there are no lines and it smooths everything out.

Denim Shorts

If you have a boho, flowy vibe then denim shorts are great under loose tunics Plus nothing says summer-like cut-off jeans. When I’m out running errands and it’s 80+ degrees out the only thing I want to wear is a loose top. Denim cut-offs are so comfortable and easy to throw on.
