Tim and I are lucky enough to have an awesome group of friends to hang out with. Most of the time when we hang out, it’s to play board games. So when I heard about the new game Codenames: Deep Undercover, I told Tim to schedule a game night.
A new spin-off of the hit game Codenames, takes players Deep Undercover with all-new words, art and mature play. Codenames: Deep Undercover is available exclusively in North America at Target and Target.com. You can also find the game here.
Codenames (the original game) has been a smash hit since its release, it was most recently nominated for the prestigious Spiel des Jahres and the won the Origins Awards for Game of the Year, Best Family Game and Fan Favorite. This version combines the original gameplay with an adult theme making it perfect for bachelor/bachelorette parties, ladies nights in, or game night!
Codenames: Deep Undercover is an adults-only, mature version of Codenames using the same popular game mechanics, but introduces all-new words, packaging, “by-standers” and art. A new twist is added with the inclusion of blank cards, allowing players to introduce their own words to the game.
The gameplay remains the same, where each team has a spymaster looking at a key card, gives their team a one-word clue and a number to locate their team’s words. So now that you know the rules and the premise. Let’s start the Friday night fun!
We split into two teams, the guys: Tim (my husband), Chase, Andrew and Jeff. And the girls + Malik: myself, Jessie, Megan, Alicia and Malik. We each took turns playing spymaster.
I don’t want to give too much away, but you really have to get creative trying to connect words and get your team to get the right cards, in the right places with the right clue! It was hilarious thinking you had the perfect hint and having your team guess the wrong words!
After four rounds, the girls + Malik won 3 to 1. The poor guys put up a good fight!
When we were packing up to head home, we all talked about how fun the game was and how we needed to get together next week to play again! Honestly, I think the guys just want a rematch. (Too bad they’d just lose again!)
